Analysis of the status of informed consent in medical research involving human subjects in public hospitals in Shanghai.W. Jianping, L. Li, D. Xue, Z. Tang, X. Jia, R. Wu, Y. Xi, T. Wang & P. Zhou - 2010 - Journal of Medical Ethics 36 (7):415-419.
Objectives The objectives of the study are to understand the current practice of informed consent in medical research in public hospitals in Shanghai, and to share our views with other countries, especially developing countries. Methods In the study, 145 consent forms (CFs) of the selected research projects in eight public hospitals with ethics committees in Shanghai were audited, and the principle investigators (PIs) of these research projects and 40 student subjects who had participated in clinical drug tests were surveyed by (...)

Separations by Random Oracles and "Almost" Classes for Generalized Reducibilities.Y. Wang & W. Merkle - 2001 - Mathematical Logic Quarterly 47 (2):249-270.
Let ≤r and ≤sbe two binary relations on 2ℕ which are meant as reducibilities. Let both relations be closed under finite variation and consider the uniform distribution on 2ℕ, which is obtained by choosing elements of 2ℕ by independent tosses of a fair coin. Then we might ask for the probability that the lower ≤r-cone of a randomly chosen set X, that is, the class of all sets A with A ≤rX, differs from the lower ≤s-cone of X. By c osure (...)

A New Framework for Epistemic Logic.Yanjing Wang - 2017 - In Proceedings of TARK 2017. EPTCS. pp. 515-534.
Recent years witnessed a growing interest in non-standard epistemic logics of knowing whether, knowing how, knowing what, knowing why and so on. The new epistemic modalities introduced in those logics all share, in their semantics, the general schema of ∃x◻φ, e.g., knowing how to achieve φ roughly means that there exists a way such that you know that it is a way to ensure that φ. Moreover, the resulting logics are decidable. Inspired by those particular logics, in this work, we (...)

    Completeness theorems for $$\exists \Box $$ -bundled fragment of first-order modal logic.Xun Wang - 2023 - Synthese 201 (4):1-23.
This paper expands upon the work by Wang (Proceedings of TARK, pp. 493–512, 2017) who proposes a new framework based on quantifier-free predicate language extended by a new bundled modality \(\exists x\Box \) and axiomatizes the logic over S5 frames. This paper first gives complete axiomatizations of the logics over K, D, T, 4, S4 frames with increasing domains and constant domains, respectively. The systems w.r.t. constant domains feature infinitely many additional rules defined inductively than systems w.r.t. increasing domains. (...)

    A simulation study on word order bias.Tao Gong, James W. Minett & William S.-Y. Wang - 2009 - Interaction Studies 10 (1):51-76.
The majority of the extant languages have one of three dominant basic word orders: SVO, SOV or VSO. Various hypotheses have been proposed to explain this word order bias, including the existence of a universal grammar, the learnability imposed by cognitive constraints, the descent of modern languages from an ancestral protolanguage, and the constraints from functional principles. We run simulations using a multi-agent computational model to study this bias. Following a local order approach, the model simulates individual language processing mechanisms (...)

Buddhisms and Deconstructions considers the connection between Buddhism and Derridean deconstruction, focusing on the work of Robert Magliola. Fourteen distinguished contributors discuss deconstruction and various Buddhisms—Indian, Tibetan, and Chinese —followed by an afterword in which Magliola responds directly to his critics.

  30. Exploring the Depth of Dream Experience: The Enactive Framework and Methods for Neurophenomenological Research.E. Solomonova & X. W. Sha - 2016 - Constructivist Foundations 11 (2):407-416.
Context: Phenomenology and the enactive approach pose a unique challenge to dream research: during sleep one seems to be relatively disconnected from both world and body. Movement and perception, prerequisites for sensorimotor subjectivity, are restricted; the dreamer’s experience is turned inwards. In cognitive neurosciences, on the other hand, the generally accepted approach holds that dream formation is a direct result of neural activations in the absence of perception, and dreaming is often equated with “delusions.” Problem: Can enactivism and phenomenology account (...)

  31. Authors’ Response: Towards a Neurophenomenology of Embodied, Skillful Dreaming.E. Solomonova & X. W. Sha - 2016 - Constructivist Foundations 11 (2):432-442.
Upshot: A successful program for an enactive view of dreaming would have to clarify phenomenal and neurophysiological similarities and differences between waking perception, imagination, and dreaming. An embodied and skillful view of the dream process would require careful investigation of somatic sources of dream content, including sensory incorporation, and global, indirect ways in which dream content reacts metaphorically to changes in bodily states. Neurophenomenology of dreams would benefit from developing dreaming-specific approaches to training researchers and participants in phenomenological methods.

The Transition from Quantum Field Theory to One-Particle Quantum Mechanics and a Proposed Interpretation of Aharonov–Bohm Effect.Benliang Li, Daniel W. Hewak & Qi Jie Wang - 2018 - Foundations of Physics 48 (7):837-852.
In this article, we demonstrate a sense in which the one-particle quantum mechanics and the classical electromagnetic four-potential arise from the quantum field theory. In addition, the classical Maxwell equations are derived from the QFT scattering process, while both classical electromagnetic fields and potentials serve as mathematical tools to approximate the interactions among elementary particles described by QFT physics. Furthermore, a plausible interpretation of the Aharonov–Bohm effect is raised within the QFT framework. We provide a quantum treatment of the source (...)

The Effect of Speech Variability on Tonal Language Speakers’ Second Language Lexical Tone Learning.Kaile Zhang, Gang Peng, Yonghong Li, James W. Minett & William S.-Y. Wang - 2018 - Frontiers in Psychology 9.
Speech variability facilitates non-tonal language speakers’ lexical tone learning. However, it remains unknown whether tonal language speakers can also benefit from speech variability while learning second language (L2) lexical tones. Researchers also reported that the effectiveness of speech variability was only shown on learning new items. Considering that the first language (L1) and L2 probably share similar tonal categories, the present study hypothesizes that speech variability only promotes the tonal language speakers’ acquisition of L2 tones that are different from the (...)

It analyzes the issue of informed consent regarding organ donation from capital prisoners in light of Confucian ethics and expounds the point that under the influence of Confucianism, China is a country that attaches great importance to the role of the family in practicing informed consent in various areas, the area of organ donation from capital prisoners included. It argues that a proper form of organ (...)
